Agra-At the time of the Mughal, in the 16th & 17th centuries, Agra was the capital of the grand Mughal Empire. During this period the city became a leading centre of art, science, commerce and culture. Akbar the Great made Agra great. The city's origins are dim but Akbar's grandfather Babur is credited with Agra's founding. The short golden age of Agra came to an end with the seventeenth century reign of Shah Jehan, mastermind of the unforgettable Taj Mahal.

Taj Mahal - a magnificent monument to love – Taj Mahal, built by an emperor in memory of his beloved queen. Construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1631, and is believed to have taken 22 years to complete, with over 20,000 craftsmen working around the clock.

The design and construction is said to be that of the legendary architect, Ustad Ahamad Lahori. Legend has it that once construction was completed, Shah Jehan had Lahori's hands cut off, and blinded, so he would never be able to duplicate the structure. What makes the Taj Mahal unique is its perfect proportions, distinct femininity, medium of construction and ornamentation. Its marble exterior reflects rose and golden tints at sunrise and sunset, while it is dazzling white during the day. It is impossible to visualize the Taj Mahal in any surrounding others than its paradoxical garden. Paradise, in Islam, is visualized as lush garden where running streams flow. When the Mughals brought this concept to India they elevated it to the heights of incomparable history.

DELHI SIGHTSEEING TOURS

Delhi is a palimpsest, bearing the complexities, the contradictions, the beauty and the dynamism of a city where the past coexists with the present. Many dynasties ruled from here and the city is rich in the architecture of its monuments. Diverse cultural elements absorbed into the daily life of the city have enriched its character. Exploring the city can be a fascinating and rewarding experience...

Delhi is a city that bridges two different worlds. Old Delhi, once the capital of Islamic India, is a labyrinth of narrow lanes lined with crumbling havelis and formidable mosques. In contrast, the imperial city of New Delhi created by the British Raj is composed of spacious, tree-lined avenues and imposing government buildings. Delhi has been the seat of power for several rulers and many empires for about a millennium. Many a times the city was built, destroyed and then rebuilt here. Interestingly, a number of Delhi's rulers played a dual role, first as destroyers and then as creators.

After the visit return to the Hotel for rest and relax. Overnight at the Hotel.

Optional – Evening Mohabbat E Taj Show – Live show  ( at an extra cost )

Love without lust can be a spiritual experience, one that distinguishes man from beasts. It is a passion and the idea of being romantically engaged at a higher level that define the intensity of pure love.

It was this kind of intense and obsessive love that found expression through a work of art the Taj Mahal which today figures as a crown in the list of wonders. Minus love and the romantic saga associated with it, the Taj Mahal would be just a well-arranged heap of white stones.
What really makes Taj Mahal stand out in the list of wonders is the passionate and romantic relationship that inspired its creation, the emotional halo that actually gets transformed into an architectural marvel. Indeed the Taj Mahal is synonymous with pure Love.

Mohabbat the Taj, the-80 minute presentation that perfectly complements a pilgrimage to the Monument of Love. "Indeed to fully appreciate and soak into the beauty of the monument, one is advised to see the musical presentation at the Kalakriti auditorium.

Day 2 – Agra– Jaipur

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Morning drive to Jaipur enroute visit Fatehpur Sikri
  • Arrive Jaipur  later in the afternoon

Post breakfast at the Hotel, drive to Jaipur . The Journey will take approx.. 6 hrs to reach at Jaipur.  On way to Jaipur stop at Fatehpur Sikri to visit this deserted city.

Fatehpur Sikri. - The imperial city of the Mughal dynasty between 1571 and 1584, Fatehpur Sikri was built by Mughal Emperor Akbar. The architectural grandeur of this deserted city cannot be described in words and one can only experience the aura of its magnificent edifices by seeing them. Fatehpur Sikri is the most popular day excursion from Agra, the city of Taj and capital of invincible Mughals for a long time.

Today, as one enters Sikri from the Agra Gate, one of the nine gateways on the way to the palace complex, Diwan-I-Aam, or the hall of public audience appears first. It is a huge rectangular walled-in courtyard where petitions were heard, proclamations made, ambassadors received and entertainment programmes held. Ponder the mysterious desertion of this capital city that was dramatically abandoned a few years after it was built. It was a veritable fairy tale city and its 'ruins' are still in a pristine condition. It is not hard to imagine what the court life must have been like in the days of its grandeur.

Continue the drive to Jaipur and upon arrival check into the Hotel.  Enjoy your lunch at the Hotel on own cost. Rest evening is free to explore Jaipur on own. Overnight

Known as the “Pink City”, Jaipur is the capital of the colourful state of Rajasthan. It has the distinction of being a well planned and laid out city. As you drive through the old part of town, you will witness a life most unlike others. Witness how the city blooms during the day in a kaleidoscope of colour and sound.

Day 3 – In Jaipur

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Excursion to Amber Fort on Elephant’s back
  • Afternoon city tour of Jaipur
  • Evening is free to visit the local Market
  • Overnight at the hotel

After breakfast depart the hotel for a half day excursion to inspiring Amber Fort.  Amber Fort is a marvellous example of Rajput architecture with its terraces and ramparts reflected in the Maota Lake below. Go up the fort in a jeep. The interiors of the fort has various royal halls decorated with intricate ivory, mirror and glass work complemented by exquisite wall paintings. As you move between the rooms of this magnificent structure feel the history and visualise the pomp and grandeur of a kingdom never conquered.

In the afternoon continue on your visits of Jaipur city.

This afternoon venture into the city, this time on a city tour. You will visit the City Palace Museum where you can see an imposing blend of traditional Rajasthani and Mughal Art. The museum is resplendent with its collection of robes of royal princes, carpets, an armoury of old weapons, miniature paintings portraying court scenes, battle scenes and processions, Also visit the awe inspiring Jantar Mantar (an accurate observatory built in 1726 AD). Also included is a photo visit at the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) - a five storied wonder with a spectacular pyramidal facade and overhanging windows with latticed screens, domes and spires.

Located in the heart of the walled city, The City Palace Complex gives you an idea about the farsightedness of the founder of Jaipur Sawai Jai Singh. He left behind a legacy of some of the most imposing and magnificent architecture, art and craft structure in the city. Sawai Jai Singh built its many buildings but some of some of the structures were also built by later rulers and some of them are even dated in the in the twentieth century too. The palace is a blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture and the royal family still lives in a part of the palace.

On entering the complex and before the palace proper lies the Mubarak Mahal, the palace of welcome or reception. Sawai Madho Singh built the palace in the nineteenth century. It was used as a reception centre for the visiting personage. The building now forms the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum and on display here are a wide array of royal costumes, some very exquisite and precious Pashmina (Kashmiri) Shawls, Benaras silk saris, Sanganeri prints and folk embroidery. An unusual display is that of voluminous clothes worn by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I (ruled 1750-68).

Across the road from the palaces is the famous “Jantar Mantar”, one of the five observatories in India . Built by Sawai Jai Singh, this is one of the largest and the best preserved. A passionate hobby of the king in the field of Astronomy, numerology, insighted him to execute this observatory and with the help of skilled labourers, they managed to create a collection of complex astronomical instruments chiselled out of stone and most of which continues to provide accurate information to this day. The most striking instrument is the Brihat Samrat yantra Sundial, an imposing yellow edifice to the far right of the observatory complex which has a 27m high gnomon arm set at an angle of 27degree.The shadow this casts moves up to 4m in an hour, and aids in the calculation of local and meridian pass time and various attributes of the heavenly bodies, including declination the angular distance of a heavenly body from the celestial equator and altitude. This highlight of the observatory has made it a centre of attraction for the tourist visiting Jaipur. Return to the Hotel for rest and relax.

Optional for this evening –Bollywood Movie ( at an extra cost)

In the early evening enjoy a walk through the hustle and bustle of the old pink city market. Experience the vibrancy of this city upfront.

You also have the option to watch an Indian movie at the famous Raj Mandir movie theatre. The Raj Mandir is an icon among movie theatres and is a sightseeing spot in its self.

The Raj Mandir Cinema opened on 1st June 1976 with the film "Charas". It was designed by architect W.M. Namjoshi in a spectacular Art Moderne style.  The exterior of the building consists of various asymetrical shapes, zig-zags, curves and even stars set into the facade, all lit at night by concealed lighting. The theatre's name is located on top of the building in large red neon letters and it also boasts the legend 'The Showplace of the Nation - Experience the Excellence'. In the large foyer there are chandeliers set into domes in the ceiling. A large ramp (rather than stairs) take patrons up into the balcony area. Seating in the auditorium is provided in stalls and balcony areas. The decoration in the auditorium is awesome, with indirect lighting that changes colours, hidden behind and underneath a frond fern leaf-like plaster trough which has openings all over the ceiling and walls. The cinema is equipped to screen 70mm films.

The Raj Mandir Cinema is the best known cinema building in India and is also on the tourist trail for visitors to Jaipur (similar to the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California). It certainly lives up to its reputation as one of the most remarkable cinemas in India.

This Buddhist Stupa was built by King Man Deva at the advice of the Goddess Mani Jogini. It is built on an octagonal base inset with prayer wheels. Ellora caves – for unknown reasons, Ajanta was abandoned in the seventh century when the artist monks moved to Ellora, 66 km away. Ellora first appears to the visitors as an irregular ridge of rock rising vertically from the ground. Unlike Ajanta, access to Ellora is very easy, but like Ajanta its true splendour lies concealed within. The rock-cut architecture of Ellora's charm are sometimes underappreciated because of Ajanta's fame; the visitors coming to Ellora after experiencing Ajanta's enhancements, is sometimes satisfied with so much rock-cut architecture, but that is doing Ellora a great injustice, for here, in this outcrop of basalt rock is the culmination of this form Ellora represents some three hundred years of great experiments carried out by different faiths with their very different iconography and structural compulsions.

Continue to visit the below sites as well.

Daulatabad Fort: Daulatabad or "the city of fortune" was named by the Delhi Sultan Muhammad Tughlaq. 13 km away from Aurangabad this fort is known to be the oldest existing forts of India

Bibi-Ka-Maqbara: 5 km away from Aurangabad, built in the memory of Begum Rabia Durani, by her son Prince Azam Shah, Bibi-ka-Maqbara is a complete replica of Taj Mahal. It is an excellent example of the Percian Architecture.

Panchakki: Built in the pre Mughal era this enormous water mill was used for grain grinding stones. It's an example of a 17th century engineering wonder.

Overnight Trip to Agra

December’2015

Day 1 – Delhi – Agra

  • Pick up from the  Hotel Venue
  • Drive to Agra – approx.. 4½  hrs
  • Arrive Agra and check into the Hotel
  • Afternoon tour of Taj Mahal & Agra Fort
  • Evening witness Mohabaat the Taj – a musical play
  • Overnight at the Hotel

In time pick up from the Hotel Venue this morning at 8:30 AM and drive to Agra. The journey will take approx....4-5 hrs to reach Agra.

Upon arrival check into the Hotel for wash and change. Enjoy your lunch at the Hotel on own cost.

Post lunch proceed to visit magnificent monument to Love – Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal - a magnificent monument to love – Taj Mahal, built by an emperor in memory of his beloved queen. Construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1631, and is believed to have taken 22 years to complete, with over 20,000 craftsmen working around the clock.

The design and construction is said to be that of the legendary architect, Ustad Ahamad Lahori. Legend has it that once construction was completed, Shah Jehan had Lahori's hands cut off, and blinded, so he
would never be able to duplicate the structure.

(Note: Taj Mahal remains closed on Friday)

Later visit Agra’s impressive Fort, where you are taken through the chambers of this royal residence. As you drive through the city, witness the local life and bazaars (markets) and the hustle bustle of everyday India.

Agra Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Agra, India. The fort is also known as Lal Qila, Fort Rouge and Red Fort of Agra. It is about 2.5 km northwest of its much more famous sister monument, the Taj Mahal. The fort can be more accurately described as a walled palatial city. It is the most important fort in India. The great Mughals Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jehangir, Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb lived here, and the country was governed from here. It contained the largest state treasury and mint. It was visited by foreign ambassadors, travellers and the highest dignitaries who participated in the making of history in India.

After the visit return to the Hotel for rest and relax.

This evening proceed to witness a live show – Mohabaat the Taj .

Evening Mohabbat E Taj Show – Live show  ( at an extra cost )

Return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2 – Agra – Delhi
Drive: approx.. 4½  hrs

  • Breakfast at hotel
  • Morning  Excursion to visit Fatehpur Sikri
  • Return to the Hotel for lunch on own
  • Post lunch drive back to Delhi
  • Upon arrival check into the Hotel – Own accommodation

Post breakfast, proceed to visit Agra’s deserted city – Fatehpur Sikri. It is 40 kms away from Agra.

After visiting Fatehpur Sikri return to the Hotel for lunch ( On Own).  Post Lunch check out from the Hotel at 1400 hrs and drive back to Delhi

Upon arrival in Delhi check into your hotel. Own accommodation in Delhi

Shimla acts as a hub for India's tourism sector. It is among the top 10 preferred entrepreneurial locations in India.

In 1864, Shimla was declared as the summer capital of British India, succeeding Murree, northeast of Rawalpindi. After independence, the city became the capital of Punjab and was later named the capital of Himachal Pradesh.
After the reorganisation, the Mahasu district and its major portion was merged with Shimla. Its name is derived from the goddess Shyamala Devi, an incarnation of the Hindu goddess Kali. As of 2011 Shimla comprises 19 hill states; mainly Balson, Bushahr, Bhaji and Koti, Darkoti, Tharoch & Dhadi, Kumharsain, Khaneti & Delath, Dhami, Jubbal, Keothal, Madhan, Rawingarh, Ratesh, and Sangri.
Shimla is home to a number of colleges and research institutions as well as multiple temples and palaces. The city's buildings are styled in the Tudorbethan and neo-Gothic architectures dating from the colonial era.
Owing to its steep terrain, Shimla hosts the mountain biking race MTB Himalaya, which started in 2005 and is regarded as the biggest event of its kind in South Asia. Overnight at the Hotel

The history of this temple dates back to more than 250 years. It is believed that Goddess Tara was brought here from eastern state of Bengal by a king from the Sen Dynasty and to honor this in later years Raja Bhupendra Sen established this temple with a wooden idol of Tara Devi in Vaishnav style and traditions.

Ayurveda - A Natural Way of Feeling Better

Ayurveda is a holistic approach to toning the body. A relaxing massage with herbal oils is highly rejuvenating. Ayurveda is an Indian system of medicine. Ayurveda means the science of life / health and employs naturalistic methods based on the theory of panchabhuta or five elements. Tone up the nervous system with the help of aromatic and medicinal oils used by expert masseurs.

Ayurveda evolved around 600 BC in India. During the 500-600 B.C., knowledgeable philosophers such as Agasthya, Charaka, Sushrutha and Kashyapa churned from the vedas the references to all illness, diseases, drug-medicines and compiled the samhitas. It is from this samhitas that the physicians later absorbed the knowledge of Ayurveda and applied them for curing illness. Ayurveda is not only the ancient Indian science of preventative health and healing but also a philosophy of living.

This new system of medicine stressed on the prevention of body ailments in addition to curing them. Followed by the Dravidians and Aryans alike, Ayurveda has been practiced ever since. Today, it's a unique, indispensable branch of medicine - a complete naturalistic system that depends on the diagnosis of your body's humours - vata, pitta and kapha - to achieve the right balance.

Ayurveda believes in the treatment of not just the affected part, but the individual as a whole. Making it the natural way to refresh yourself, eliminate all toxic imbalances from the body and thus regain resistance and good health.

This evening enjoy sunset Cruise on the backwater with tea/ coffee and snacks on board. Return to the Hotel later on.

The coastal town of *Alleppey* on the Arabian sea, called as the Venice of the east for the numerous canals that meander through the town. This town holds a thrilling event of snake boat race every year during August. It is also known for its cashew nuts.

The backwaters in Kerala is a network of 1500 kms of canals both manmade and natural, 38 rivers and 5 big lakes extending from one end of Kerala to the other. Before trucks became popular, the main cargo transportation was through backwaters by 'Kettuvalloms'. Kettuvallom means, ‘stitched boat’. Kettuvalloms or Houseboats (Riceboats) are country boats that were used in the early days for the transport of goods from the isolated interior villages to the towns. With the advent of roads, bridges and ferry services, gradually the Kettuvalloms went off the scene. Now these kettuvalloms are back again as a major tourist attraction. A ride on a Kettuvallom is a fabulous way to explore the fascinating beauty of the backwaters.

Houseboats (Kettuvalloms) of Kerela: The Houseboats of Kerala are giant country crafts, measuring up to 80 feet in length, retrieved from being lost to the State altogether.  Once they ruled the backwaters, poled along by one or two men, heavily loaded with rice, coconut and other commodities.  But in the recent times, the kettuvalloms have been replaced by more and modern modes of transport, relegating them to neglect and decay. It takes great skill and meticulousness to construct these giants by tying huge planks of jack wood together.  Curiously enough, not a single nail is used in their making.  There used to be an entire clan of artisans who were involved in kettuvallom construction.  Today, an innovative holiday idea has restored these majestic representatives of a unique culture and with them their makers.

Rest of the day free to relax on board. Lunch, Dinner & Overnight on board.

Also visit the ancient Mattancherry (Dutch) Palace built by the Portuguese in 1557. This palace was presented to the ruler of Cochin as a gesture of goodwill. The Palace’s alternative name “Dutch Palace” resulted from substantial renovations by the Dutch after 1663. The most important feature of the palace is the astonishing murals that adorn some of the palace rooms, depicting scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharta and Puranic legends connected with Shiva, Vishnu, Krishna, Kumara and Durga.

Constructed in 1503 by the Portuguese Franciscan Friars who accompanied the expedition led by Pedro Alvarez Cabral. He famed Vasco de Gama, the first European to reach India by sailing around Africa, died in Cochin in 1524 and was buried here for 14 years before his remains were transferred to Lisbon. December 2015

05 nights - 06 days

Day 01 – Delhi – Jaipur
Drive: approx.. 5-6 hrs

  • In time pick this morning from the Hotel Venue
  • Drive to Jaipur
  • En-route stop for break to use facilities
  • Arrive and check into the Hotel
  • Evening visit local market on own

Known as the “Pink City”, Jaipur is the capital of the colourful state of Rajasthan. It has the distinction of being a well planned and laid out city. As you drive through the old part of town, you will witness a life most unlike others. Witness how the city blooms during the day in a kaleidoscope of colour and sound.
Evening is free to visit the local market on own.

Optional for this evening –

Visit  Raj Mahal, the first palace within the Orccha citadel was built by Raja Rudra Pratap, but completed by his successor, Madhukar Shah. Rani-ka-Mahal, built for Madhukar Shah's wife, is of notable interest. Her ornate bedroom was decorated with beautiful murals depicting scenes from Ramayana and various incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Jehangir Mahal built by Bir Singh Deo is probably the most striking palace in Orchha with its elegant hanging balconies, countless windows with stone pierced screens and a beautiful gateway decorated with turquoise tiles. It was built in honour of Mughal emperor Jehangir during his visit to Orchha. The painted palace of Rai Praveen Mahal was built for the beautiful courtesan and poetess, Rai Praveen, by Raja Indramani, who had great affection for her. Sheesh Mahal built in the 18th century has little of its past splendour, but offers sweeping views of the town from the terraces. It's a heritage hotel now.

After the visit continue the drive to Khajuraho and Upon arrival check-in at your Hotel for rest and relax from long drive.

Khajuraho was founded in the 9th and 10th century by the rulers of the Chandela Dynasty, and influenced by Tantrism.  Eroticism becomes a theme of philosophical interest and the aim is sublimation of sexual relationship in the Sexual act or  " Maithun", women being regarded as the incarnation of the divine energy or  "Shakti". It is also possible that the carvings of Khajuraho were influenced by "Kama  Sutra", the famous treatise on erotic arts written by Vatsyayana in the time of the Guptas. The erotic love making images of celestial nymphs, gods and goddesses sculpted in delicate detail have caught the imagination of people from all over the world.

Morning visit the western group of temples. Western is the largest and best known. All but three temples, which are built of local granite, are constructed with hard river sandstone dug from the east bank of the Ken River, 13 miles to the east.  None of the temples are enclosed, rather they are erected on high masonry platforms, each on an east-west axis. It is their detailed sculpture which gives Khajuraho its appeal and importance.  Less than a tenth of it can be called 'erotic'. Numerous interpretations have been given for the erotic sculpture but there is nothing sordid about these inspired carvings showing beauty and voluptuousness of the female form.  Most of the temples are 'banded' by horizontal panels of statues. The purvasins, or divine ladies, are shown engaging in common place human activities such as having a bath, feeding a bath, getting dressed and applying makeup. Figures of Lord Shiva often protruded from the band.  The long frieze with scenes of battles, processions and hunting that rind the base of the Lakshmana temples are some of the best examples of narrative sculpture.
